About HSBC

All over the world, economic growth is bringing new prosperity. Businesses are pioneering new trade routes and new centres of wealth and influence are emerging. We’re inspired by these changes and the opportunities they bring for our business, our employees and our customers.

The best and brightest people see the opportunities that this represents and feel inspired too. These are the people we’re looking to connect with, because these people are the future of HSBC.

The Role

In the early stages of your studies, you might not have a clear idea of where you see yourself starting your professional career post university. Our rotational First Year Summer Internship will give you the opportunity to experience different business areas within HSBC, and gain some much sought-after business experience.

During this eight-week internship, you’ll gain first-hand experience of working in two business areas (Retail Banking and Wealth Management and Commercial Banking). Serving both our personal and commercial customers, you’ll develop the key skills to deliver the first-class experience our customers expect, and have the chance to work on a charity project. Supported throughout by your manager and a buddy, you’ll have the opportunity to build your network and, on completion, could secure a place on one of our Penultimate Year Summer Internships.

Requirements

To be considered for the programme, you will:

  • Be a first-year student on a three-year course, or a second-year student if you are taking a four-year course (any discipline is acceptable)
  • Be on course to achieve a 2:1 honours degree or above
  • Have 300 UCAS points or equivalent (excluding General Studies)
  • Have a grade B or above in both Mathematics and English at GCSE (or equivalent)
  • Previous customer service or sales experience would be an asset
  • Be willing to progress onto either the Commercial Banking Relationship Management or the Retail Banking and Wealth Management Penultimate Year Summer Internship in the summer following your next academic year
  • Be available in July and August 2015 to complete the internship
