About HSBC

All over the world, economic growth is bringing new prosperity. Businesses are pioneering new trade routes and new centres of wealth and influence are emerging. We’re inspired by these changes and the opportunities they bring for our business, our employees and our customers.

The best and brightest people see the opportunities that this represents and feel inspired too. These are the people we’re looking to connect with, because these people are the future of HSBC.

The Role

We provide tailored wealth management services to help to grow, manage and preserve our clients' wealth. We are one of the largest international private banks and have been helping clients to make the most of their wealth for more than 150 years. The nature and international scope of Global Private Banking’s work means we can offer a range of interesting and challenging careers.

During this ten-week internship you will build an understanding of what it takes to become a Relationship Manager, Investment Counsellor or Product Specialist within Global Private Banking. Working alongside an expert team in London, the Americas or Asia will increase your understanding of our comprehensive investment offering while continuous training will give you the technical and behavioural skills you need to succeed. Supported throughout by a line manager and buddy, you’ll also have the opportunity to build your network and, should you excel in the role, secure a place on our sector-specific graduate programme.

Requirements

To be considered for the programme you will:

  • Be a second-year student on a three-year course, or a third-year student if you are taking a four-year course (any discipline is acceptable)
  • Be on course to achieve a 2:1 honours degree or above
  • Have 320 UCAS points or equivalent (excluding General Studies)
  • Have a grade B or above in both Mathematics and English at GCSE or equivalent
  • We are entirely open to all backgrounds, however, there is a requirement for applicants to demonstrate their motivation/business focus/understanding of Global Private Banking/the industry
  • Prior internships within private banking/financial services are welcome but not essential
  • An understanding/experience of some of the following areas would be beneficial, such as: client relationship management; dealing with high net worth clients; tax; advisory; wealth planning; inheritance
  • Be available from mid-June to complete the 10 week internship
