We run an exciting 12 month placement where you are given an opportunity to work in a role and on real projects, making a difference in both your team and the company as a whole.

As the Global Supply Placement Student within this very busy department, you will be an integral member of the Global Supply Team and will support key projects throughout the year. This role involves dealing directly with suppliers sourcing materials and other parts from suppliers globally to support the manufacturing activity at the Kent Plant, and supporting the Global Supply team to execute cost reduction and supply chain improvement projects.

Responsibilities

  • Learn basic purchasing terminology including legal, contractual terms and the application of these in Supply Agreements.
  • Undertake management of low value direct material commodities with support.
  • Work with Supply Managers to identify and support Global Supply Projects such as cost reduction, negotiation and delivery performance.
  • Involvement in a VPI project, providing support and assistance to the team.
  • Understand the cross functional relationship with other departments such as Materials, Engineering and Operations, and other PGBU Plants to achieve cost, quality and delivery improvements.
  • Understand day to day function of the Global Supply Department and the key procedure and practices including legal and Corporate compliance initiatives.
  • Monitor and assess supplier performance, supporting supplier audits, visits and PPAP approval.
  • Gain an understanding of engineering drawings, specifications and approval processes.
  • Provide support to the Purchasing team, including SQI, in the production and delivery of reports and presentations.
  • Acquire knowledge on PGBU products and Manufacturing processes including global business areas.
  • Participation in EEEC activity to complete continuous improvement projects as directed by the business.
  • Participate in Six Sigma project and represent Global Supply.
  • Investigate variances in purchase price, invoice price and standard price, including Aftermarket.
  • Negotiate with suppliers on selected commodities for commercial issues with necessary support to complete Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and S Review.

Training Provided

  • A comprehensive induction programme as well as role specific training.
  • Individual training to suit particular business skills required by the business or identified by the candidate.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Studying for a Supply Chain or Business related degree.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent IT skills to include Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Flexible and proactive attitude with a desire to learn and take on responsibility.
  • Ability to analyse data and draw conclusions.
  • Presentation skills.
  • Accountability and project management.

To be eligible for our 12 Month work placement you must be a university student who has a placement year option as part of their degree programme. You will spend a year in a specific department to gain real experience in your subject area. You are supported by formal and informal training, and work on projects that add true value to the business.
