The Role

This is a 13 month industrial placement within Clearswift’s Engineering department. During this placement the successful candidate will spend their time supporting the development, testing and maintenance of Clearswift’s product range.
The role will provide an opportunity to gain exposure to the broad range of activities that can be experienced within a software engineering department. These will include software development and verification as well as assisting in the expansion and maintenance of the department’s infrastructure.

The role is relatively flexible in approach and tasks will be assigned based on the student’s aptitude for IT/general system knowledge and ability to find bugs in developed code. Any programming knowledge will be put to good use in developing scripts to aid in testing or our performance and regression automation. Over the course of the year this will allow the student the opportunity to develop by focusing on areas that are felt to be most appropriate to their future career.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and developing tools to support the ongoing development and maintenance of the current product suite
• Assisting in the verification of both major or minor product releases as required
• Assisting in the maintenance and expansion of the department’s infrastructure
• To develop, document and perform testing and integration with some of the key internet systems like Active Directory, DNS, Email and Web technologies, Browsers
• Building and configuring computer systems and virtual machine environments

Skills Profile

• Must have a passion for software development and a desire for a career in software engineering
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Programming experience using either C++, Java, C#, Python, Perl desirable
• Microsoft Windows and/or Linux experience desirable
• XML knowledge desirable
• Attention to detail with analytic, diagnostic and troubleshooting skills

Qualifications

• 3 ‘A’ Levels at Grade C or above
• Good examination track record and on target for a 2ii or above
