What is Business & IT Analysis?

Business & IT Analysis sits within the Business Change department in the Group Operations division at M&G. Business Change are the primary interface for all M&G business units, working closely with each to understand the requirements for change and ultimately deliver the defined objectives within a project life-cycle environment. To maintain our competitive edge and improve our dominant position in the Asset Management Industry, Business Change is a key player in supporting the strategic goals of M&G through:

  • developing business and technology solutions
  • developing business processes and operating models

The role of a Business & IT Analyst focuses on the business-side of technology and helps translate real business problems and opportunities into usable IT solutions.

The role involves (but is not limited to):

  • gathering stakeholders requirements using structured techniques
  • investigating and analysing business activities and processes
  • facilitating workshops
  • specifying and testing IT changes
  • analysing business problems and presenting recommendations to business stakeholders
  • drawing existing and future business processes

What does an Intern in Business & IT Analysis do?

Interns take on an active role on projects as part of a project team, gaining exposure to the various business areas and technology used at M&G. Projects can range from improvements to existing business solutions, implementation of new business and IT solutions, through to multi-million pound revenue generating business initiatives. Not to mention meeting the increasing demands of the regulators whilst continuing to support our business areas achieve their strategic plans.

Interns will:

  • support projects that transform how M&G do business, working alongside talented individuals
  • have real responsibility on projects from day one and will be expected to take ownership for deliverables assigned to them
  • work alongside and learn from Subject Matter Experts in business processes and systems
  • work with a variety of business stakeholders (ranging from companies within the Group, overseas offices, industry bodies, market leaders, the list is endless) and across multiple business areas to gather, gain agreement on and to define requirements for change
  • be part of a project team working closely with the project manager, business users, IT developers and testers to deliver IT solutions

What training is provided?

All interns go through a comprehensive training programme which includes workshops on asset management, M&G business areas and the M&G systems architecture. These are mostly arranged for the first week of the internship and are designed to be suitable for those with and without industry knowledge. You will gain an understanding of the whole spectrum of business areas within M&G further informing your post-university career choices. You will also receive a Personal Development Manager from the Business Analyst team to ensure the intern is getting the most out of the internship and has a good understanding of the role of a Business Analyst.

Who are we looking for?

Our 8 week schemes are open to students on track for a 2:1 undergraduate degree or higher, from an IT, business of science discipline for example Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business). An ideal candidate will have minimum 300 UCAS points and the broad skill set needed to match our business.

The right candidate for M&G will:

  • have a genuine interest in IT solutions and expanding their knowledge and understanding of the Investment Management industry
  • have business awareness and willingness to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • be a self-starter with a cool head under pressure
  • be proactive and delivery focussed with excellent communication skills
  • have strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to think laterally and generate creative solutions
  • display drive and commitment to deliver projects and flexibility to changing business needs
  • able to display a strong team ethic and be able to influence others effectively
  • have the confidence to generate and maintain positive relationships within the team and across the business
  • be able to follow the market trend, generate ideas and always think out of the box
  • be prepared for knowledge and skill set to broaden and develop quickly.

Our 2015 internship scheme will commence on the 22nd June and finish on the 14th August. We accept applications from penultimate year students only for our internship programmes.
