The Role

To assist the Head of Engineering Services and the engineering team under his management in the design and supervision of Port related engineering works, to act as project manager or to assist project teams in the provision of technical assistance on electrical engineering projects, maintenance and equipment where appropriate, with appropriate guidance and supervision as required.

Job Duties

  • To assist in the preparation of designs, contract documents, specifications, drawings, risk and environmental assessments for the execution of electrical engineering works which are to be carried out by contract.
  • To assist in the selection of Contractors, Consultants and Suppliers for electrical project and maintenance works.
  • To assist, when required, as Engineer or Employer's Representative in agreeing interim certificates for payment, final accounts and claims resolution on engineering projects.
  • To liaise with contractors and consultants undertaking project and maintenance work within the Port, including the progress of work on site in respect of brief, time, quality, safety, financial targets and operational constraints.
  • To assist in the design and preparation specifications and drawings for project and maintenance work to be carried out by the Board's Technical Services Department as required.
  • To collate estimates and carry out feasibility studies for proposed new schemes and alterations to existing installations.
  • Assist in the expansion and development of the Automated Metering and Targeting (AM&T) system.
  • Carry out research into energy saving products and systems and produce reports as required.
  • Carry out research into alternative energy generation devices and energy storage and produce reports as required.
  • Carry out network and protection analysis on HV and LV networks as required.
