This is an additional vacancy within the 2014/15 intake of undergraduates. The placement will begin in mid-August and will be around 10 months in duration, concluding in July 2015.
The Department:
Within General Motors, the Information Technology (IT) organisation is responsible for the management of Information Systems, Technology and Infrastructure. The General Motors Europe (GME) Planning team comprises of an immediate team of five people based across the region, focused on supporting the GME Global Sales and Marketing (GSM) Director in the area of Planning. The Planning teams responsibilities cover the running of the Office of the GSM with particular focus on communication of information within IT as well as the wider GM arena and with external parties, IT Portfolio Management, Export Compliance and Information Lifecycle Management.
Key Responsibilities (highlights):
GSM Planning - Management of all Planning IT Sharepoints including GME IT Socrates Sharepoint, GME IT Newsletter author, GME GSM information co-ordination and presentation preparation, Liaison with regional planners and Global Communications team, GME GSM Planning activities such as process development and event management
Support of GME IT Training - Training Logistics for all UK based classroom training. Involvement in Training administration
Portfolio Management – support of the GME GSM direct organization in various tasks and uses of the portfolio and project management tool
Export Compliance - Monitoring the Export compliance classification for all GME IT applications. Tracking and following up on all missing or erroneous data. Ensuring that relevant data is updated correctly and in a timely manner. Researching and working with the individual functional areas, the export compliance team and the vendors. Running the annual Export Compliance training within the IT regional team
Mainframe Usage and Cost Savings - Working together with application owners support the Total Application Cost mapping activities. Identifying and tracking unused storage and access codes and follow up until deleted. Monitor and analyse the reports to determine "anomalies" in invoicing and track until clarification/ correction. Hold regular reviews to ensure that retired user and application data has been removed as per Information Lifecycle Management policies. Track the cost savings achieved. Review and improve current processes
Required Skills:
A self-motivated individual, capable of integration to an existing team and running with an issue to conclusion. An ability to achieve goals by actively taking steps in order to influence events is necessary. This is a customer-facing role, so interpersonal skills; especially good telephone manner and concise written communication
is key.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.

Preferred Area of Study:
Business & Information Systems or any technical qualifications.
