The Role

A student placement at TfL will give you the opportunity to be a part of shaping a world class city. We are currently looking for talented Transport Planners to join us on this year’s placement helping us to answer challenging and important questions such as: How do we meet the needs created by more people and more jobs? How do we make transport less polluting, more sustainable and more accessible? How do we enable the efficient movement of people and freight today? By working within our Surface Transport, London Buses or London Street teams you will help develop solutions to meet the needs of our rapidly expanding city.

You will be paid for working full time and also get free travel on the TfL network while you are with us. A student placement with TfL will also put you in a strong position when applying for the TfL Graduate scheme. You will gain valuable experience and you will also have the chance to fast track through the graduate application process to the final stages.

Entry requirements

We are seeking applications from students studying for a degree in transport planning, town planning, modelling, maths, statistics, physics, engineering, geography, biology, chemistry, communication, history, economics, political sciences, politics or human geography. You'll need to be studying in a sandwich degree course, currently in your second year of study and returning to your final year after your Year in Industry placement.

The final closing date is 13th July 2014 at 23.59 however we will close schemes when we receive sufficient application numbers therefore we recommend that you apply early.

How to Apply

If you're successful you'll have to pass pre-employment checks before joining. These will include reference checks, qualifications checks, right to work in the UK and in some cases a medical and a Criminal Records Bureau check.

First stage: Online Application Form
Second stage: Online Psychometric Test (SHL Supervisory/Junior Managerial Numerical)
Third stage: Telephone Interview
Fourth Stage: Final Assessment
