Based out of Aberdeen, the finance internship is a 12-month placement which aims to provide students with real work experience related to their degree within our finance departments. The 12-month finance internship will start in June-July 2014.

Role and Responsibilities:

The finance function plays an important role in supporting the business, and the finance interns will have the opportunity to work within our Financial Planning & Analysis, Controllership, Operations, Supply Chain and/or Commercial teams. Depending on the business, you will have the opportunity to gain hands on finance experience, with responsibility in a range of areas including some of the following tasks;

  • Operational & Financial Performance Reporting – liaise within the immediate team and across other business functions to compare performance to latest expectations, highlighting key drivers
  • Providing a high level of customer service to operations, commercial and finance management including interaction with other GE businesses, functions and internal or external auditors
  • Prepare and update receivable data for currency hedging forecasts
  • Analyse inventory and manufacturing/project productivity
  • Supporting quarterly selected account reconciliations
  • Supporting monthly and quarterly closing activities
  • General adhoc queries and projects to assist finance managers
  • Identify areas for simplification and alignment, working with manager to find solutions.

Through the internship, the individual will gain a valuable insight into the operation of a successful business, having responsibility in a range of areas. This is a challenging and rewarding role that will provide an excellent start into a career in finance based areas.

Knowledge and Requirements:
  • Graduates or students who are in the 2nd year of a degree course with a finance or business background are preferred, but all degree subjects will be considered providing the candidate is able to demonstrate a genuine interest in finance
  • Attainted/Predicted 2:1 degree or equivalent mark
  • Strong working knowledge of computers and proficiency with Microsoft Office, in particular Excel.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and inter-personal skills are essential
  • Candidates should be able to use their own initiative and work as part of a team
  • Fluency in English, with good written and oral presentation skills
  • Flexibility to prioritise assignments and meet strict deadlines is crucial
