Work this summer with budding Kenyan entrepreneurs to create innovative businesses that change lives.

Balloon Kenya is an award winning social enterprise working to defeat poverty through entrepreneurship. As featured in the FT, Guardian, and Virgin we team up passionate young people from around the world with Kenyan entrepreneurs to work together for 6 weeks, launching sustainable new businesses that tackle local problems and provide employment.

We are building a team of exceptional young innovators to join us in East Africa in 2014 to work with more than 200 young Kenyans, invest £20,000 and create 80 new businesses.

This is a remarkable opportunity for anyone wanting to develop outstanding entrepreneurial skills, get hands on start-up and consultancy experience, manage an international development project, and above all, embark on a life changing journey.

The Role

  • LEARN: Balloon Kenya recruits young people (Fellows) from across the world to complete an intensive week-long programme in business design, developed with leading entrepreneurs, corporates, academics and 100s of young people.
  • SHARE: Fellows then work for 5 weeks with budding Kenyan entrepreneurs, leading classes and supporting entrepreneurs to develop and test exciting new business ideas.
  • PITCH: On the last weekend the Kenyan entrepreneurs present their business ideas to our Balloon Fund and we invest in the best ideas. This year we invested £20,000 in 80 businesses.

What’s in it for you?

The Balloon Kenya programme offers:

  • practical entrepreneurship and consultancy experience in a rapidly developing country
  • the chance to lead a creative process and positively change lives through enterprise, not aid.
  • the environment to develop a hugely impressive range of business and entrepreneurial skills rated highly by major employers.
  • an investment in your future. 100% of our 2012 alumni were either in employment or further education within 3 months of leaving Balloon Kenya. Balloon Fellows have gone on to set-up their own businesses and get top jobs at organisations like PWC, Boston Consulting Group and McKinsey as well as in not for profit sectors.
  • an extremely high quality experience. Our 2013 programmes were rated 4.7/5 by Fellows.

“The Balloon Kenya programme has truly been the most rewarding experience I have had to date.”
Anna Rickman, Balloon Fellow 2012, University of Oxford

“Balloon Kenya was extraordinary in every sense. The marvels you see in Balloon Kenya’s website and brochures? Yeah, that’s not just marketing, it’s true.”
Apolinar Toba, Balloon Fellow 2013, University College London

“Within 6 weeks of returning from Kenya I received a very exciting job offer which I wouldn’t have got without my experiences on the programme.”
Felicity Cremin, Balloon Fellow 2012, University of Bristol
