About Frontier

Frontier was established in 1989 as a non-profit conservation and development non-governmental organisation (NGO) dedicated to safeguarding biodiversity and ecosystem integrity and building sustainable livelihoods for marginalised communities in the world's poorest countries. Our first projects were in Tanzania, one of the world's poorest countries. Carrying out groundbreaking surveys in remote forest, savannah, and marine environments, our dedicated teams of volunteers set about building a comprehensive picture of areas that were heretofore ignored, despite being, as we discovered, among the most biodiverse areas in the world.

Roles Available

Due to human encroachment and illegal practises such as poaching, habitats and wildlife are under serious threat. Wildlife conservation programmes are vitally important in the effort to keep species and habitats protected and healthy. Volunteers are key in this effort, and can help enormously by mapping habitats and working with local communities to ensure conservation efforts are put in place.

By producing baseline data and monitoring the changes in biodiversity in different areas of the world, volunteers have the opportunity to contribute to the protection of threatened ecosystems, and will have the privilege of observing wildlife in its natural habitat. This vital work can help shape environmental politics, educate local communities and have a real positive impact on conservation globally.

While on a Frontier conservation placement, you can earn a BTEC in Tropical Habitat Conservation. We also offer longer-term placements for students wishing to undertake field work and research to support their degree, masters or PhD.
