The Role

Portfolio Analytics within BlackRock Solutions is responsible for delivering our analytical capabilities on securities and portfolios to risk and portfolio management teams at BlackRock and external BRS clients. We work with financial modelers and software developers to enhance our risk and analytical capabilities across fixed income, equity, and multi-asset products. While we do not manage money, we enable our clients to understand their asset allocation and risk exposure so they can better manage their investment portfolios. We are at the intersection of the portfolio and risk managers who utilize our analytics, the financial modelers and developers who build the analytics and portfolio management tools, and the operations teams that perform the daily analytical processing. As a result, Portfolio Analytics analysts quickly acquire the technical, financial, and business insights needed to best support and address their clients’ needs and drive solutions that help improve investment decisions and risk allocation.

Interns will be joining a young and diverse group that works with a variety of teams across the firm, while learning the investment process and financial analytics, at both the security and portfolio levels. Interns will follow capital markets and industry events closely and understand how those events impact our clients, then implement solutions to fulfill subsequent client needs. Successful interns possess the technical and analytical knowledge, business insights, and outstanding communication/relationship skills required to effectively engage in and deepen client relationships. Our interns must be comfortable gaining highly technical expertise and demonstrating a strong desire to work closely with clients. The wide scope of the role provides an excellent, well-rounded generalist foundation for future development within BRS and many groups throughout the firm.

Key Responsibilities

As an intern on the team, your responsibilities may include:

• Support the modeling and reporting capabilities of BlackRock’s proprietary analytics and trading platform, in order to help investment and risk professionals understand their security and portfolio level exposures
• Test and deliver new models, analytics, and reporting to our clients coupled with enhancing the Aladdin capabilities
• Maintain the content of the analytical reporting on exposures, risk, and performance
• Perform ad-hoc special analyses in response to market events, new business needs, or client demands
• Assist with the creation of analytics and reporting for new security types, new products, and new clients in coordination with teams across the firm
• Develop close partnerships with clients and other teams throughout the firm to build highly effective relationships to understand and solve problems
• Work requires the application of technical skills, as well as a strong understanding of our proprietary systems.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Outstanding academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, and work experience
• Strong interest in financial analytics and its applications in the investment and risk management process
• Demonstrated passion and enthusiasm for the asset management and risk management industry
• Desire to work closely with internal partners and key clients in a manner that deepens relationships and further demonstrates the value of BlackRock’s analytical tools
• Creative, analytical problem solver who’s comfortable with using a wide range of technology
• Sets high standards for own performance, willingness to take on additional responsibilities quickly
• Enjoys a fast-paced, high-intensity environment and multi-tasking
• Ability to leverage technical, business and client insights to drive improvements
• Excellent communication and presentation skills with a willingness to interact with internal and external clients
• Technical and programming skills are a plus but not required
