In the UK, the link between income and success at school is stronger than almost anywhere in the developed world.

Educational disadvantage is unfair and unacceptable, and you can help us get to grips with it. Join us in realising our vision: No child’s educational success is limited by their socio-economic background.

Poor education doesn’t just result in poor grades. The impact of inadequate education can last a lifetime – and affect the lives of the generation that follows. In the UK, people living in the poorest neighbourhoods will, on average, die seven years earlier, having lived lives with fewer opportunities and less choice. Some children begin their life journey at a disadvantage. Is it fair that education should consolidate that disadvantage and make it permanent?

The Programme – 26th March-4th April

The Teach First Insight programme is just that, an exclusive two week insight into our graduate Leadership Development Programme combining theoretical learning with the opportunity to actually deliver a lesson in one of our partner schools. Insight participants are specialists in Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths (STEM) and are passionate about passing their knowledge onto the next generation.

The Insight Programme is just that, an insight into our Leadership Development Programme. Over the two weeks, participants will get involved in a number of different activities, both inside and outside the classroom.

During Week 1, you will learn about Teach First and how you can help address the STEM challenge and educational disadvantage. You will have training in the basics of the classroom, for example, behaviour management, learning styles and micro teaching. You will also go into one of our Teach First partner schools for a day to observe classes and meet the pupils and teachers. You will learn the art of lesson planning and create your own lesson in teams to inspire and engage pupils in their STEM subject.

In Week 2, you will spend four days in school putting their learning from Week 1 into practice, delivering their lesson, engaging with pupils and getting involved in school-life.
