About Grant Thornton

Who We Are

We're incredibly proud of our award-winning internships and placements, and pleased you told us just how good they are. We were once again named best provider of internships and placements by Rate My Placement based on the amazing reviews of our previous interns and placement students.
Grant Thornton is one of the world’s leading audit, tax and advisory firms, with offices in over 100 countries. But we are much more than just accountants – and so are the people that work for us. We’re a complex, ambitious organisation, helping over 40,000 clients in the UK alone to improve their financial performance and manage risk through our specialised business advisory services.
The 12-month placement program is a chance for you to discover more about Grant Thornton and what it means to work here as a graduate trainee. This is a great opportunity to make the most of your sandwich year from university; developing new skills, learning more about commercial issues and ensuring your C.V. stands out from the competition when you graduate.

As a 12 month placement student you'll have the opportunity to join one of six business areas audit, public sector audit, tax, corporate finance, recovery & reorganisation and financial planning.

What you'll be doing

Audit:

Our placement students tell us that there's never a dull day when working in audit. The variety and challenge is what keeps it exciting and being part of something that's fundamentally right at the heart of business gets them out of bed each morning. As a placement student you'll be doing exactly the same type of work that our first year trainees do. You 'll be working with and advising dynamic organisations of all different sizes and from a wide range of sectors, delivering effective and innovative solutions to help unlock their potential for growth. You'll be central to their growth journey; as a trusted adviser you'll be helping them achieve their ambitions and taking them from where they are to where they want to be.

Public sector audit:

Grant Thornton has become the number one supplier of public sector audit services to local governments and the NHS, something we're really proud of. The work we do here impacts absolutely everyone across the whole of the UK.
The public sector audit team focuses on the public bodies, government departments and national services that are constantly in the news, as they reorganise their financial operations according to the changing government legislation. The scope for making a difference is huge and the business advisers who work within this area talk about the sense of value they bring on a daily basis. You 'll spend most of your time onsite with clients, such as local government and NHS bodies, helping them to continue delivering services in the most cost-effective way.

Tax:

Our clients look to us not only to save money, but also to ensure they are operating within the law. Working in the tax team, it's about interpreting complex legislation and delivering solutions in a way that the client understands. Tax is a cost to their business and we, at Grant Thornton, are here to operate efficiently, to manage that.

Corporate finance:

Corporate finance is involved with buying and selling businesses, mergers and management buy ins and outs, to name but a few. This team is very exciting for those with an entrepreneurial spirit, who love challenge and love unlocking potential for growth for the dynamic organisations we work with.

As part of the Corporate Finance team, you'll be very commercially minded, with a strong interest in up-to-date business news, and have a confidence that allows you to deliver solutions of a technical and critical nature.

We supply a wide range of services to underperforming business and their stakeholders.
