The Role

INDUSTRIAL STUDENT PLACEMENTS
POSITION: IT DEPARTMENT
REF: ISP13IT03

We have an Industrial Placement opportunity within our IT supporting our Aerodynamics department.

The main accountabilities of the roles are:
- Ensuring 24x7 operation of HPC datacenter
- Developing and maintaining work environment for internal CFD/Aero customers
- Maximizing performance of wide range of application running in batch mode
- Designing and implementing low impact IT solutions
- Implementing workflows (set of tasks tied by dependencies) as requested by internal customers
- Improving security of Linux environment
- Implementing and maintaining real-time services
- Documenting new and existing processes

Whilst undertaking this role you will have opportunities to gain experience in a number of areas, these include:
- HPC clusters and infrastucture
- full family of Platform Computing products
- sustaining flawless operation of large batch site
- tools commonly used in CFD/aero environment

Desirable skill set (in no particular order):
- Strong Linux skills
- Scripting in at least one of perl/shell/tcl
- Experience of development in at least one of C/C++/Java/Fortran
- Familiarity with networking technologies
- Familiarity with storage technologies
- Familiarity with micro-architecture concepts
- Strong problem-solving ability
- Familiarity with the concepts of HPTC
- Experience of multiple platforms

The placement will be for 1 year, starting in the Summer of 2013.
