In the UK, it operates the country’s largest power station, which not only supplies 7 to 8% of the UK’s electricity but has also recently transformed itself into a predominantly biomass-fuelled generator.

About the role

An opportunity has arisen at Drax Power for either an undergraduate placement student on a “sandwich” gap year or a post graduate to join the Supply Chain and Logistics team for a period of 12 months.

This team is responsible for the short and long-term planning and delivery of all international and UK fuel deliveries into the power station, through the coordination of all sea, rail, road, port and storage operations.

The Freight and Logistics Placement will include, among other responsibilities:

  • Managing international fuel supply contracts
  • Arranging shipping documents with suppliers and ships’ agents
  • Checking documents and cargoes for contract compliance
  • Helping to develop the Drax logistics plan
  • Liaising with ship-owners, suppliers, port operators and freight providers
  • Day-to-day responsibility for the shipping programme into UK ports, ensuring fuel availability to supply into the power station
  • Managing freight and fuel positions using internal systems
  • Liaising with port terminals and ships’ agents globally on the organization of loading and discharge operations
  • Ensuring payments are processed through the back office function

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A positive attitude and excellent interpersonal, persuasion, communication and presentational skills
  • Skills as a team player who recognises how the supply chain elements work together
  • Interest in sea freight and logistics, particularly in the dry bulk shipping industry
  • An understanding of commercial contracts and interest in executing contracts and adding value
  • Ability to work under pressure in a highly organised manner
  • Aptitude for dealing with multiple priorities in a rapidly changing work environment
  • Ability to identify supply chain opportunities and to bring them to the business
  • Ability to focus on delivery against targets, delivery performance and cost management
