About ARUP

Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists offering a broad range of professional services. Through our work, we make a positive difference in the world.

The Belfast office has a range of projects that are ongoing within the building, infrastructure and consulting sectors and are seeking to develop and strengthen our team.

About the role

We are currently recruiting for Civil Engineering Industrial Placement Students to join our well-established Infrastructure team in Belfast. This is an excellent opportunity for students that are enthusiastic and knowledgeable about Highways, Geotechnics and Drainage to join a multi-disciplinary team for a period of approximately 12 months. Start and end dates will be determined by the business, but we may be able to provide flexibility depending on circumstances.

Having successfully completed Years 2 or 3 of Civil Engineering degree (BEng, MEng) you'll already have some knowledge of highway, geotechnics and drainage engineering. Under the supervision of a mentor you will become a member of the infrastructure team and contribute to the design of multi million pound civil engineering schemes in Northern Ireland and abroad. Strong written and verbal communication skills will be encouraged along with the commitment to achieve the highest standards in the delivery of solutions.

You will provide support to team members to deliver an effective and professional service to our clients on strategically won projects. You will assist in preparing designs in co-ordination with the team, and gain a thorough understanding of the role of a design engineer by using relevant software and seeing first-hand how we operate.

Depending on performance, there may be an opportunity to receive a permanent offer of employment upon graduating. We also try to provide experience within our larger group to ensure that the successful candidates have a varied workload.

You will work as part of project teams to deliver effective and professional services to our clients. Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of our design teams, you may have the opportunity to work alongside other disciplines such as Mechanical, Electrical and Geotechnical Engineers, Surveyors and Consultants.

Requirements

  • Studying a BEng or ideally MEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
  • On track to achieve a 2.1 or above, as proven through the modules that you have completed to date
  • Graduating in Summer 2018 or Summer 2019
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrate strong motivation and passion for a career in Infrastructure design in Northern Ireland

Please upload as one document, and not three separate attachments. Candidates must follow these instructions precisely to ensure that they are considered for the role.
