About RBS

The passion you own, the expertise you develop, the potential you reach. It all depends on where your strengths, talents and personal goals take you. Our focus is on finding the best fit for you while giving you everything you need to make the biggest contribution you can.

RBS is changing for the better. We’re creating a bank that’s committed to doing what’s right for customers, now and in the long term. We’re transforming our working practices, how we do business and the way we use resources. Your passion will help us achieve our goals.

Services - Technology & Transformation Intern Programme

Based in Edinburgh and London for our Internship programme, you will spend ten weeks working as part of a team to deliver real projects where you will be stretched to deliver the best outcomes. Roles within Technology are very hands on and you will develop both operational and technical knowledge through project work. The internship will provide exposure to a variety of different teams that will enhance your business knowledge and provide an opportunity to learn about our specific technology platforms including our websites, coding and our market leading mobile banking apps.

A key focus is to ensure our technology is secure and resilient, keeping our business and customers safe. The internship will provide you with an opportunity to impact on leading technology propositions for our customers across all of our channels. You will be working as part of a team to develop technology strategy ranging from application development, infrastructure and technical architecture and developing and testing software for Front Office Traders across the bank.

The programme offers varied and interesting roles and previous intakes have worked with teams who have delivered multi-million pound projects ranging from counteracting viral attacks, enhancing our technology infrastructure to be more resilient against cyber attacks to ensuring that all of our financial reporting tools and our technology applications are functioning as they need to. A critical part of the role is ensuring that we have the right tools, applications and technology support to make the bank run smoothly.

We collaborate on multi-million pound projects with high profile third party suppliers to mitigate attacks on our websites and mobile banking apps. Responsibilities have ranged from working with colleagues in our division, assessing their requirements and then negotiating terms and conditions with third party suppliers. Interns take ownership of purchasing, testing and implementing new technologies for the bank.

An internship in Technology will provide exposure to vendor and stakeholder management, legal engagement, contract negotiations and customer led design thinking, all of which will enhance and build upon your skill sets.

Further to your day to day work you will work in teams with other interns to create a project to demonstrate what you have learned throughout the internship, what changes you would make to enhance our delivery to our business and customers and to provide you with the opportunity to make sustainable changes for RBS. Successful previous interns have even run their own ‘hackathon’ events.
