About GVI

Global Vision International is an international multi-award winning organisation focused on running high impact programs in the fields of environmental research, conservation, education, and community development. We have been working towards creating and operating sustainable volunteer programs for more than 16 years. Over the years GVI’s project partners have included reputable names such as Save the Children, Project AWARE, Jane Goodall, PADI, DAN (Diver's Alert Network), WWF Mexico, WWF Kenya, and SANParks.

We are committed to our mission and most of our staff are ex-volunteers who are dedicated and passionate about making a difference. GVI internships create a platform for interns to live a more globally aware and fulfilling life while gaining invaluable work experience. These career development opportunities are built on the basis of responsible travelling and outstanding training. A GVI internship will kick-start your career and allows you to explore a new lifestyle and culture. Be ready to set yourself apart for a bright future and successful career!

About the internship

Discover Thailand’s pristine beaches, adorned temples, and flourishing mountains when you journey on this internship through Chiang Mai. Despite Chiang Mai’s popularity as a tourist destination, this program operates far away from tourist activities and interns will quickly ease into the peaceful and laid-back lifestyle that still exists in this remote location. Interns will have the honour of getting a first-hand experience of how the traditional Karen elephant-keeping communities live.

You will teach English to the local children and elephant keepers, also known as ‘mahouts’. This cultural adventure goes hand in hand with the opportunity to work towards the rehabilitation of mistreated elephants and plant biodiversity. The elephant rehabilitation is focused on ensuring the health of the heard and the exciting chance to get up close and personal with them as you study their behaviour.

Benefits

This internship is focused on a variety of skills and interns will rotate between the different projects. Interns will make a real difference within the community and at the same time receive the opportunity to broaden their horizons in terms of vital professional skills and work experience for future careers. A successful internship may also grant you the opportunity to work for GVI or a partner organisation around the globe. All our staff members are committed to ensuring that interns receive world-class training and work experience. Accommodation and meals are included as part of the internship.
