A Background to International
Doing an internship is a great way to gain new skills, meet interesting people and enhance your C.V. Doing this abroad can make the experience all the more valuable because at the same time as widening your career prospects you can widen your own horizons.
Why do an internship abroad?
In recent years the number of students gaining work experience abroad during the holidays or as part of their gap year has increased dramatically. This increase is a direct response to the demand from employers for more culturally aware and experienced candidates. Doing your internship abroad will open you up to new ways of doing business, give you a fresh perspective and help you to gain new language skills.
At the same time you will get the chance to travel and have a real experience in a foreign culture. Working with local people, eating local food and using local transport is the best way to get to know a country and its culture.
How do I get an internship abroad?
Getting an internship abroad can be more complicated than getting one in the UK. One way is to contact UK based companies with offices abroad and see if they are hiring. However, if you are thinking of going somewhere you have never been before and where you do not speak the language the best way is to go through a company which specialises in organising work placements for students and graduates.

Have you done an industrial placement?
If you've done one, we'd love to know, and so would other students looking to take placements or internships this year. It only takes a couple of minutes.
