Go from Strength to Strength on an EY FastTrack

At Ernst & Young, we believe you already have the skills and strengths you need for a great career. Because it’s your natural strengths that really matter, you shouldn’t worry that your degree will send you down the wrong career path.
Ernst & Young is a leading professional services organisation with 141,000 people, in 700 locations across 140 countries around the world. We work closely with other organisations to improve how they work, make vital business decisions and explore opportunities.

There are undergraduate opportunities here no matter what stage you are at in your studies and what degree you are studying.
Join us on an EY FastTracks Programme and you’ll use your strengths to help solve complex problems for some of the world’s leading businesses. You’ll gain valuable experience, putting you right on track to secure a graduate job with us before your final year.
By ensuring that you make the most of your natural strengths - and by providing you with world-class training and development – we’ll help you go further, faster.
You can experience working with us in one of four areas: Assurance, Corporate Finance, Tax or Advisory. Whether you decide to get involved with an Insight Day, our Leadership Academy, a Summer Internship or an EY Placement, you’ll get a great head start in your career.
EY Insight Day
A one-day experience at an Ernst & Young office, designed to give you a real insight into life and work here. You’ll see what people do day-to-day at a global professional services firm, what joining a company like ours can lead to, and start to learn about your personal strengths.
EY Leadership Academy
This elite programme is a three-day residential course to help you develop leadership skills. The stimulating, intensive training is conducted by recognised experts and will really push you. You’ll learn skills and self-awareness that will help you hit the ground running when you start work.
EY Summer Internship
A summer programme to get you fully involved with life and work at Ernst & Young. To start with we’ll help you develop your fundamental business skills, but before long you’ll be doing the same kind of work as our graduates. It’s a great chance to really explore what Ernst & Young has to offer – and a good stepping stone to a future career here.
EY Placement
If your course requires you to spend a year in industry and you’re committed to a career in professional services, put an EY Placement at the top of your list. You’ll spend a year working with clients and sitting some of your professional exams. It’s an exciting chance to make great contacts, and many EY Placement students go on to graduate jobs with us.

Meet Olivia
- Name: Olivia
- University: University of Leeds
- Course: Accounting and Finance
- Position: Tax trainee
Are you enjoying your placement?
It’s been a really good experience - it’s been hard work but enjoyable. Ernst & Young is a very welcoming environment and I’ve made a lot of friends.
How much responsibility have you been given during your placement?
I’ve basically been doing the same job as a graduate. I’ve been given clients to handle and have been to quite a few client meetings and client sites. I’ve worked with some interesting banks – we get to travel on occasions too.
It’s been very challenging – I’ve had to learn how to do tax audits. The first one I did, I didn’t have a clue, but you learn fast at the deep end and are supported along the way by your team and Managers.
How well organised is your placement? Was it easy to get settled in?
It’s a bit of a shock going into a full time job, but they help you ease into it, give you time to adjust and don’t rush you off your feet with work at the start.
There was a real structure for us to come into, so from day one I felt part of the team. During the first week of induction, I got to meet everyone. There were also welcome drinks in my business area to welcome the new interns There’s a strong support network here. If you don’t feel comfortable about something, or don’t feel you’re getting the experience you need, there’s always someone to turn to. There’s lots of help available if you need it. I’ve got a counsellor and a buddy, to answer any questions.
What experience and skills have you gained?
My time management skills have improved. Now I know what it’s like to work in a nine-to-five job. My business communication skills are much better too, and I’ve learnt how to work in a team. But overall, it’s shown me working life in the real world.
I think I’ll work harder at university, because I’m used to working full days now! And it’s given me an insight into what I’m learning at university and how it’ll help me at work.
What’s the best thing about your placement?
All the new people I’ve met and the different backgrounds they’re from. And it’s really shown me what it’s like to work full time. It’s harder than I expected, but it’s also more interesting and fun than I expected.
What advice would you give to someone planning their placement?
Be yourself and work hard, and you’ll do ok. And make sure you read the website and know which department you’re applying for before starting your interview process.
