To what extent did you enjoy your placement with SAP?

Working for SAP has been an amazing experience. Through my placement I’ve had the opportunity to gain a valuable insight into a global software company, learn vital transferable skills and establish a clear direction for my future career. I’ve also been lucky enough to work with and learn from some amazing people who were always willing to share their experience and knowledge. SAP has a very supportive culture and they are keen to help you develop as much as possible.

How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

From early on I was given a high level of responsibility. After returning to University and having placement discussions with fellow students, I have discovered that SAP offers unrivalled responsibility. For my day-to-day responsibilities, I was given the same deadlines and responsibilities as full time employees. In addition, the placement students at SAP are the project managers for the SAP UK&I Placement Programme for the following year, this incorporates a variety of responsibilities including; CV screening, planning assessment days and managing the on-boarding process.

What work did you get involved in during your placement?

During my year I worked in the Operations team whose key role is to support customers from certain accounts. This meant I worked on everything from resource management and contracts to revenue forecasting. I was also given the chance to work with internal stakeholders such as our Sales, Legal and Finance departments on contract creation. This enabled me to learn about all areas of the company. I also had the opportunity to run my own projects within my department throughout the year.

Furthermore, at SAP you are very much part of an intern community that runs a number of projects across the company, consequently, I was not restricted solely to departmental work. I also had the chance to be involved in marketing, recruitment and CSR projects. I strongly feel that the variety of the work I was involved with has given me a strong base for the future.

What were the highlights?

For me, the biggest highlight of my year was the opportunity to work with some amazing people and being part of the incredible intern community that exists at SAP. Despite being a global company, SAP is very passionate about their intern programme and work hard to make the placement year enjoyable and valuable for all their interns.

The social side of working life at SAP was another benefit of working for the company. There are regular company subsidised social events which give you the chance to network and meet your colleagues. These are always fantastic nights out.

To what extent would you recommend completing a placement with SAP?

I would strongly recommend doing your placement at SAP, it has been a fantastic experience and I have learnt more than I ever expected to from a placement year. The encouragement, development opportunities and support that you receive from the company are exceptional – the company are even supporting me with the completion of my dissertation now I have returned to university.

SAP is the largest applications software company in the world and working for them really provides you with a chance to be part of something great. My placement with SAP has taught me a huge amount and I feel that I am in a very strong position to find a job as a result of my placement year.

Being an intern at SAP is incredible opportunity to develop your skills, be challenged and make a difference - with SAP on your CV, the contacts you make and the skills you’re provided with I genuinely believe that SAP is the best start to your career you could hope for.
