About Credit Suisse
Credit Suisse is a forward-thinking financial services firm serving clients around the globe. As a stable company with a long banking tradition, we are one of the most respected banks in the world. Indeed, we are a leading player in many key markets—recognized by industry publications for our continued excellence.
Our three primary businesses – Private Banking, Investment Banking and Asset Management – partner with our Shared Services, Information Technology and Operations teams. Together, they work around the world, around the clock, providing seamless solutions to our global clients and employees.
Our Summer Internship Program
We offer one of the most in-depth internship programs in the financial services industry. Our programs offer intellectual challenges and real business experience and typically last for ten weeks.
From day one, we’ll help you develop your skills. You’ll gain meaningful insight into the different areas of our business, while participating in our unique collaborative culture. You’ll face real challenges, enjoy real achievements, and have your talents recognized every step of the way. You’ll receive world class classroom training and on-the-job experience, and you’ll meet and network with your peers and Credit Suisse employees at all levels. Above all, you will develop a skill set that will set you apart.
We offer summer Analyst positions in Investment Banking (including the Investment Banking Department, Fixed Income, Equities, the Global Markets Solutions Group and Alternative Investments), Information Technology, Operations and Shared Services.
Our Spring Program
To look from the outside of one of our offices, it’s difficult to get a feel for our business. But the moment you meet one of our people and understand our approach to global finance is the moment you start to realize that Credit Suisse is something more than just a big building. You can find out more by joining our Spring Program, a five day scheme, that aims to introduce you to the investment banking industry and give you a realistic understanding of what our world is like.
You will join us in our London office, either in the Investment Banking Division (including Fixed Income and Equities) or our support functions (which include Investment Banking Operations, IT and Finance). While you’ll focus primarily on the area you select, you’ll also get exposure to other businesses. You will take part in skills sessions, CV workshops and business information sessions, as well as social and networking events.
What We Look For
For most of our internship programs, you’ll need to be studying towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree or equivalent. For most programs, your degree can be in any discipline, although some may require a relevant degree or major.
We look for people with a wide range of experiences, interests and degrees who will add fresh perspectives to our business. We’re looking at your vision, talent, enthusiasm, and above all, your long-term potential. Whatever your background, you’ll need to be:
- Client-focused and committed to developing creative solutions
- A leader who naturally attracts followers
- A critical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills
- A self-starter who is able to envision long-term goals and ways to attain them
- A collaborative team member who builds excellent relationships
- An articulate communicator who also recognizes the importance of listening
- Resilient, open to feedback and focused on excellence
- Entrepreneurial and capable of delivering meaningful results
- Analytical and logical, with raw intellectual ability

Investment Banking Department: Autumn Internship Analyst Program 2012
Credit Suisse

Meet Alessandro
- Name: Alessandro
- University: LSE
- Course: BSc Business Mathematics and Statistics
- Position: Spring Program Intern & Summer Intern
What did you do in your spring and summer internships?
The spring week is an insight into banking, It is divided in two parts: Investment Banking Department (IBD) and Securities (Equities and Fixed Income). It was an interactive week and included different talks and case studies e.g. an M&A deal between two renown beer companies and a trading game involving chocolate bars. The 10 week summer internship starts with a week of training. We then rotate on three different desks within the division we chose (i.e. Fixed Income or Equities). This is an amazing opportunity to meet many people and experience different areas. We are given projects by every team and a ‘surprise’ trade idea to pitch.
Highlights of the spring and summer internships?
Both programs are amazing opportunities to become familiar with finance, witness live deals and network. I am still surprised how much CS employees are open minded, diverse, friendly and willing to help.
What was your greatest challenge?
My first team asked me to create, structure and price a financial product for one of their clients and pitch it as a practice. It was a really challenging and exciting experience as I could see that my work would probably be useful for the team and I got to study and understand investors’ real needs and concerns. It was an amazing opportunity to deepen my knowledge, practise using tools such as Bloomberg and understand the market interactions.
What did you learn from your spring program that’s helped you in your application for summer and now in your internship?
The spring program helped me realise I did not want to work in IBD and more specifically that I was interested in Fixed Income rather than Equities. I would not have been that confident about my choice had I not done the spring week. It also gave me a better understanding of the banking industry which is hard to get from the outside.
What was the social life like?
It was great to see that many social events are organised for the interns, which creates strong and meaningful networks plus it’s really useful to meet some employees in a different context. People are very friendly; I feel I have made really good friends during this program.
Any top tips for a student interested in a spring program or summer internship?
Be confident but not arrogant and see the interviews as a one-to-one interaction rather than just answering the questions you are asked (it worked for me)
