CSC: Luke's story...

You’ve read all about why CSC is such a great place to work at for your placement year, but you don’t have to take our word for it! Luke is one of our Industrial Placement students who has just returned to university to complete the final year of his degree. Luke is going back to university with a job offer from CSC in his pocket, and shares some of his experiences below.

Placement Role at CSC: Junior Rollout Services Deployment Specialist

"Throughout the year I worked within 3 different teams on the NHS Project. I worked in Project management, On-site activities and also took part in several Technical roles. A few of my responsibilities included liaising with NHS staff, handling confidential data, and planning practice visits."

Highlights of the year:

"A major highlight throughout the year was overseeing projects 'Go-Live'. This is a definitive milestone that shows the project has been a success and that your team have done a good job. In relation to this, excellent feedback from the NHS and senior members of CSC was also very satisfying."

What prompted you to re-apply to CSC as a Graduate?

"CSC is an excellent company to work for. Hard work and personal achievement is recognised and progression throughout the company is a real possibility. I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and I believe CSC to be an innovative, ever expanding company which is something I'd like to be part of."

Graduate Role at CSC: Project Management

What benefit do you feel you have gained from a placement year at CSC?

"Firstly, I believe I have learned many new skills. Working within three different teams taught me technical and project management skills; and also showed me how to communicate effectively and work in a real life business environment.

The placement has also provided me with an excellent opportunity to join the CSC Graduate Scheme once I have completed university. I feel this is a real weight lifted off my shoulders as the worry of getting a job after university has been diminished (Dependent on a level 2:1 Degree). The link between Industrial Placements and Graduate Schemes at CSC is strong, if you impress throughout your placement, CSC encourage you to apply for the Graduate Scheme, which personally I find very satisfying."
