Gaby - Microsoft Internship
I work in the Sales Excellence department, in the Enterprise and Partner Group. Over the year I've had some really fantastic opportunities through that group and through others as well – my manager's given me great opportunities to diversify and get a really good, broad view of the business.
The internship offers a variety of different training opportunities. We've got the learning centre here, which is a really well-stocked library – it's got all the books on technology and books that I actually used as part of my degree course. We've got the opportunity to sit our Microsoft Certified Application Specialist exams, the MCASs. It's a series of six exams that gives you qualifications in different products, like Word and Excel; and these aren't just Microsoft-specific, you can take these to other companies, or you can take these back to university.
So the support here is fantastic. I do have a specific mentor but I'd say that pretty much everyone I meet becomes sort of a mentor to me – I've got about 8 different people who I would go to on almost a day-to-day basis to ask questions. And my manager aside, who is fantastic – he always gives me the support I need – there are loads of other people across the business, ranging from past graduates to other managers to really high senior executives, there's a really open culture where I can go and ask anybody anything and they'll always give me an answer or point me in the right direction at least.
I love the office here, it's really dynamic and really vibrant. There are so many different kinds of people and so much to do; obviously this is my first job but I would never expect an office environment to be like this. I've got loads of ad hoc meeting spaces or I can nip off and grab a coffee with someone rather than have a really rigid meeting.
Well I absolutely love technology; so anything that's new, to me, is like a new toy, it's something fun to play with. I think that's one of the really exciting parts about my job, actually being able to introduce new technologies to my friends and other people at home who've never even heard of them – and probably won't hear about them for another year or so.
