Barkers/Guardian Internship Debate
We were invited by Barkers (a graduate marketing agency) to be involved in a panel debate at the Guardian Newsroom themed around the relevance of work experience and internships, followed more importantly, by a wine and cheese tasting session.
Panel members included the Head of Graduate Recruitment at Citi, Head of Resourcing at LogicaCMG, a recruiter for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and last but not least Ali Lindsay, a founder of RateMyPlacement.
The debate centred around the following issues;
• Who really benefits from placements?
• Do internships widen the skills gap when only the privileged have access to them?
• Are placements and and internships only necessary because universities are failing industry?
• What’s the right balance between designing a placement that’s realistic or one that will woo you the best students?
Visit The Blog to read responses and thoughts about the above issues and share your point of view!
The evening the real success, we not only managed to sample all the vino on the menu, but we also polished off most of the cheese board. The RateMyPlacement team took a particular liking to the brie and French baguette. Oh, and the debate was very informative too.
Don’t just take our word for it, read what Ri5 wrote about the evening here
