Enterprise Week 2008 - 17th - 23rd November

Enterprise Week, part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, is a national celebration of enterprise with thousands of events and activities happening across the UK. Last year there were over 5,000 events and more than half a million people took part! As an enterprising bunch ourselves, we’re getting involved in a number of ways this year.

Enterprise definition:

1 an organization, especially a business, or a difficult and important plan, especially one that will earn money;

2 eagerness to do something new and clever, despite any risks

So how enterprising are you? Did you start your own tuck shop at school? Do you watch Dragon’s Den and think you have an idea that could be the new iTeddy? Or is the closest you have got to enterprise watching an episode of Star Trek? Well according to the above definition just by working in a business you are helping enterprise, but it doesn’t stop there, how eager are you to do something new or clever on your placement or at university?

Enterprise, or the act of being enterprising is something that is relevant to all students considering a work placement or internship. On the Enterprise Week website it says the week is all about “encouraging people to have ideas and make them happen. This can be by starting up a new business or social enterprise, or by having ideas and making them happen in the workplace.” So how can you be enterprising on your placement or internship, well have you ever considered working for an SME (Small and Medium sized Enterprises)? Would you question your boss and suggest a better way of doing things, or have you even considered starting your own business on placement? Hopefully on this page we may give you some advice, and encourage you to be more enterprising.
